Lumbini Tour 9 Day. This tour is a interest of many people. Lumbini lies in the Rupandehi district of Lumbini zone it lies in western Nepal. It is about 20 km away from the Gautam Buddha airport, Siddhartha Nagar. And it is 27 km far from the Indian Border, Sunauli.
Lumbini in the ancient time
Buddhist literature also placed Lumbini between Shakya kingdom of Kapilvastu. And Koliya kingdom of Devdaha to the east. Tiraulakot lies twenty eight km east of Lumbini. It is the capital of the Shakya. And also thirty two km east of Lumbini is Devdaha. Similarly, it is the capital of the Koliya. Furthermore, it is a beautiful pleasure and also a recreational garden. Both kingdoms maintained it collectively during the lifetime of the lord Buddha.,,
Birth Of Buddha
Maya Devi is the queen of King Suddhodhan of Kapilvastu. On a beautiful morning of 623 BC, she arrived in Lumbini. She was actually on her way to maternal home, Devdaha. Moreover, she was going there for the delivery of her first child. The service providers were also attending her while she was walking in the garden with the child in her womb. She was walking slowly and enjoying the peace, tranquility and solace of the Lumbini garden. During her walk she suddenly felt the labor pain.
She realized the time of delivery. And took a bath in the Shakya Puskarani. It is located almost in the center of the garden. After purifying herself she was seeking support in her situation. There she preceded twenty five steps to the north. There was also a beautiful Ashoka tree full of flowers. And she hold a branch of that tree.,,
Tilaurakot:
Lumbini Archaeologists identified Tilaurakot as the actual capital of Kapilvastu . It is the home of King Suddhodhan, father of Prince Siddhartha. Prince Siddhartha later went on to become the Buddha. Lord Buddha spent the first 29 years of his princely life in Tilaurakot. Chinese travelers visited Tilaurakot more than 2500 years ago. He reported seeing numerous stupas, monasteries and palaces. The Chinese pilgrims Fa-Hien and Hiuen – Tsang noted that they saw Kapilvastu in complete ruins. They also counted 10 deserted cities within Kapilvastu. King Virudhaka, who massacred the Shakyas during the last days of Lord Buddha, is said to have destroyed the cities. It is located around 27 km west of Lumbini. And also 3 km away from Taulihawa town. Therefore, a joint effort by Nepali and Japanese archaeologists recovered the royal town of Tilaurakot.
Kudan:
Kudan is located around 4.5 km south of Tilaurakot. It is a huge mound of structural ruins. And a pond nearby appears to be the ruins of stupas and monasteries. Someone presented Kasaya (yellow robe worn by monks) to Lord Buddha in Kasya stupa. This is where King Suddhodhan met Lord Buddha for the first time after he returned from cosmic enlightenment.
• Gotihawa:
Lumbini Gotihawa is located around 3 km southwest of Taulihawa. This is an important religious site for the Buddhist world community. It is also historically and archaeologically important. It is believed that Krakuchanda Buddha came before Shakyamuni Buddha. He was born in Gotihawa. Moreover, he attained Nirvana there. We can see brick structures of stupas and monasteries in the area outside modern Gotihawa village. At the center of the main mound the remains of a broken Ashokan Pillar lie on a slab. There is a huge stupa. It adjoins the pillar on the northeast side. It also has rings of wedge-shaped ancient bricks. Moreover, it identifies the Nirvana Stupa of Krakuchanda Buddha. The villages are still using an ancient well in the center of the village. The development of the site was believed to be started in the 6th century B.C.
• Niglihawa:
Lumbini is a significant archaeological site. It is about 7 km north of Taulihawa. The remains of a broken Ashokan Pillar lie close to a large pond. Emperor Ashoka built a stupa. Moreover, he set up a pillar when he visited the site during his pilgrimage. This was discovered by renowned archaeologist, Dr. Alois Fuhrer in 1895. This pillar is 15 feet tall. Moreover, there are inscriptions on its upper portion. It is believed that Kanakmuni Buddha was born in this place and also get enlightened . And moreover, he met his father there. It is also regarded as a very important religious place for Buddhists. And also for research scholars.
Sagarhawa:
Lumbini Tour Sagarhawa is about 12 km north of Taulihawa. People excavated the ruins of an ancient pond in 1895 in this forest site. Archaeologists have identified this site. And they named it as the “Palace of the Massacre of the Shakyas”. The ruins of the ancient site lie on the west and also on south. Banks of the large rectangular pond are locally known as Lumbu Sagar or long pong in Niglihawa Village.
Aurorakot:
Aurorakot is about 10 km northeast of Taulihawa. It is a large rectangular fortified area. Furthermore, there are remains of an ancient moat and brick fortifications in east of Niglihawa. A walled fortress in ancient times was Citadel. And it was also the natal town of Kanakmuni Buddha.
Devdaha:
Devdaha is 54 km east of Lumbini. It is across the Rohini river . It is in fact the ancient capital of the Koliya Kingdom. Moreover, it is the maternal hometown of Queen Mayadevi, Prince Siddhartha’s mother. As well as Prajapati Gautami, his stepmother, and Princess Yasodhara, his consort. This is where Prince Siddhartha spent his childhood. Seven years after his enlightenment, Lord Buddha visited Devdaha. He also ordained the followers of Jain Sadhu Nirgrantha Nathputra. In addition, there are several other sites around Devdaha such as Kumarbarti, Khayardanda, Bairimai/Kanyamai, Bhabanipur/Devidamar, Mathagadi (ancient weapons).
Ramagram:
It is also known as the maternal home of Buddha. This is where we can see the biggest Stupa. Furthermore, they have important relics. It was believed to be built around 600 B.C. Ramagram is a brick mound on the bank of the Jharahi River. It is a 7 meters high brick Stupa. It also contains one of the eight Astha Dhatu (relics) of Lord Buddha.
Lumbini has many new monasteries occupied by different nations. Some notable ones are:
Burmese Buddhist contributed a lot in building the Myanmar Temple. The monastery is an attractive big white structural monument. It also has a golden pinnacle soaring into the sky.
The China temple, which has a very beautiful pagoda style with many prayer and meditation cells.
The Korean Temple is beautifully set. And it has many remarkable images of Buddha.
Besides this, there are others like the Nepal Buddha Temple and the Dharma swami Buddhist monastery. Other countries like Japan , Sri Lanka , Thailand , Vietnam , etc. are also contributing to build more temples and monasteries. ( Gurla Mandata ) (youtube)
