Welcome to Gurla Mandata
Mt.Yubra peak climbing (6035m)
Mt.Yubra peak is situated north of Kathmandu valley and near by Mt. Langtang Lirung. Yubra Himal literally means ‘covered with snow’ and, hence, usually refers to a snow-covered area, rather than to one summit only.Mt. Yubra Himal reference designates a comparatively flat glacier area which is 3 to 4 km long and up to 1.5 km wide. This glacier area is around 6000meter high from sea level.
Also, Mt.Yubra peak is only just visible over the Lirung Glacier from Kyanjin Gompa. Take the short hiking up to Mt. Kyanging Ri 4,773meter, however and the view of the route to the peak opens up. From Kyanjing Gompa the approach follows the right side of Lirung Glacier to reach the end of the steep Yubra Glacier.
Avoiding the ice, the route follows a steep drain far to the left which also requires some scrambling & hand work to climbing. The glacier flattens out in a snowy which can be crossed to make a high camp. The ridge can be joined from the northern most edge at the head of the glacier. A 3 AM start should bring climbers to the summit around 8:30 am. So, fixed ropes might be need on some sections of the ridge.
Summit of Yubra Himal, the views towards the surrounding peaks, Ganesh Himal, around Langtang and Tibet area are fantastic.
