Acclimatization and Safety precautions:
Langtang Region Trekking.High altitude sickness (HAS) can be life threatening. If elevation is gained too rapidly without proper acclimatization. Over exertion and dehydration contribute to HAS. So, drink at least 3- 4 l water everyday besides tea and coffee. It act as diuretics . Watch the health of your companions and porters. Medical doctor’s advise is important. While ascending more than 400 m a day once above 3000 m elevation. Alternatively , one can spend an extra night at 3000 m and 3,500 m before ascending further. The symptoms are -headache ,difficulty in sleeping, breathlessness. Also, loss of appetite and general fatigue . If someone develops the symptoms, stop ascending immediately . If symptoms persist, the only proven cure is to descend to a lower elevation. Carrying a comprehensive first- aid kit is advisable. As there are no medical facilities out side Dhunche.
The Langtang Helambu trails are rocky and slippery after rain or frost. Watch out for falling rocks while crossing landslides but do not stop. Also, never hike along . Hiring local guides is strongly recommended on the Ganja la(5,120m) trek. And on Lauribina la ( 4600m) during winter. Emergency radio facilities are available at the army posts at Ghora Tabela and Langtang. Telephone mobile facilities are available at singh Gompa. And also at major settlement in Helambu .
